Yaklaşım

Dissensus olarak araştırmalarımızda etnografik yöntemler kullanıyoruz. Büyük veri çağında, nüansları gören bilgi üretme yöntemlerine duyulan ihtiyacın farkındayız. Hızlı biriken anlık veriyi çok katmanlı bir gündelik deneyim anlayışıyla birleştiriyoruz. Her bir araştırma için yeni bir yöntem tasarlıyoruz. Gündelik hayat, tutarlı düzlüklerden değil, çelişkili kıvrımlardan oluşur. Hayatın akışı içinde sürekli dolaşımda olan etkiler, anlamlar ve arzular; çoklu gerçeklikler, yaklaşımlar ve duruşlar yaratır. Duygu, düşünce, davranış ve deneyimler bireysel olduğu kadar toplumsal ilişkilerin karmaşık bir ürünüdür. Bireyler, sosyal ilişkiler ve toplumsal kurumlar akıl ve duygunun bir aradalığıyla hareket eder. Dissensus olarak bu derinliği anlamak ve bilgiye dönüştürmek için farklı disiplinlerden gelen deneyimlerimizi bir araya getiriyoruz. Yeni ilişkiler tespit ediyor, yeni kategoriler inşa ediyoruz.

Prensipler

Dissensus

  • Veri odaklıdır. Sahanın ortaya çıkardığı veri ve ilişkileri önceler. Verili yaklaşımların önerdiği hipotezlerin yerine sahanın yaratıcılığını tercih eder.
  • Bütüncüldür. Veriyi kendi toplumsal bağlamı içinde değerlendirir. Analitik ayrımlarla düşünürken hayatın bütüncüllüğünü göz önünde bulundurur. Araştırmalarını her bir olguyu var eden ilişki katmanlarını bir arada düşünerek gerçekleştirir.
  • Şüphecidir. Alışılagelmiş genellemeleri sorgular. Her bir çıkarımla birlikte yeni sorular sormaktan çekinmez.
  • Yorumsamacıdır. Verinin kendi kendine konuşmayacağının bilincindedir. Farklı nedensellikleri yorumlamayla ortaya çıkarmanın peşindedir.
  • Tasarımdan veri toplamaya, analizden raporlamaya kadar araştırmanın her safhasında mahremiyet ve hakkaniyetli temsil prensipleri ışığında hareket eder.

Who are we?

Şemsa Özar

Completed her M.A. at Boğaziçi University, Department of Economics. Worked in the State Institute of Statistics and the Bank for the Development of Industry. Obtained her Ph D in economics from the Vienna University of Economics (Wirthschafts Universität Wien) in 1990. Taught in the Department of Economics, Boğaziçi University until 2018 when she retired. Studied and published on women?s labour, employment and women entrepreneurs, gender based occupational discrimination, micro- and small businesses, social policy, informal employment and forced migration. Directed two research projects on the Development of Women?s Employment funded by the General Directorate on Women?s Status (KSGM) and the World Bank. Carried out the field research for the project on Micro and Small Enterprises Research Project funded by the World Bank and undertaken simultaneously in Morocco, Lebanon, Egypt and Turkey by the Economic Research Forum for Arab countries, Iran and Turkey ERF). Carried out a research project funded by the General Directorate of Social Assistance and Solidarity on the Development of a Cash Assistance Programme for Widows. Acted as consultant for international organizations such as the European Commission, the ILO (International Labour Organization) and the SSRC (Social Sciences Research Council). Acted as Turkey representative to the European Network of Experts on Employment and Gender Equality (EGGE). Acted as the 2015-2016 president of the International Association for Feminist Economists (IAFFE). Founding member of the Women?s Labour and Employment Initiative (KEIG). Undertook numerous projects for civil society organizations such as the Development Centre and the Diyarbakır Institute for Political and Social Research (DISA).

Nükhet Sirman

Completed her Ph. D in 1988 at the University of London, department of anthropology. Worked as a lecturer at the Middle East Technical University, Ankara and Boğaziçi University, Istanbul until 2019 when she retired.  Taught in areas such as family and kinship, the foundation of modern Turkey and the sociology of emotions. Carried out research on family farms, social movements, gender and the family, honor and violence against women, migration and media and television in various regions of Turkey, including Söke (Aydın), Sivrihisar (Ankara), Diyarbakır and Mersin.  Specializes in participant observation and other qualitative field research methods and taught qualitative research courses for many years. Has worked with numerous partners ranging from the department of economics, Middle East Technical University, the General Directorate on Women?s Status (KSGM), United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), The Association of Migration, The Association for the Support of Women Candidates (Kader), United Nations International Children?s Emergency Fund (UNICEF), Ankara University Faculty of Education, Mother Child Education Foundation (AÇEV), and Initiative for Education Reform (ERG).  Has designed and organized training on issues ranging from gender equality, women?s political participation to political literacy and participated in the preparation of a national action plan with regard to violence against women. Worked in various civil society organizations such as the Purple Roof Foundation (Mor Çatı), The Women?s Library and Information Centre and Kader. Acted as researcher in University College London and the Institute of Advanced Studies (Nantes, France).

Yusuf Kutlu

Completed his M.A. in sociology at Boğaziçi University in 2015. Working at present on waste, cleanliness and public health in nineteenth century Istanbul for his Ph. D degree in modern Turkish history at Boğaziçi University.  Participated in the research on Understanding the Political Universe of Turkey Through Emotions and Affects. Directed in 2018 the research on the HDP electorate for the Konda research on electoral clusters. Carried out research for different research firms on banking, food, retailing, security and current politics.

Gökhan Mülayim

Completed his B.A. in political science and international relations in 2011 and his M.A. in sociology in 2018  at Boğaziçi University. Ph D candidate and Teaching Assistant at Boston University, department of sociology. Participated in the research on Understanding the Political Universe of Turkey Through Emotions and Affects.  Completing field research for his Ph. D project on processes of economization of non-material goods and services. Co-researcher in the micro organization processes of political parties in Turkey. Has carried out research in numerous areas including economic sociology, sociology of culture, the sociology of emotions, political sociology, organizational studies and urban studies.

Sidar Bayram

Obtained his B.A. degree from the department of political science and international relations in 2008 and in 2011, his M.A. degree in sociology at Boğaziçi University. Worked as a research assistant in the department of sociology, Boğaziçi University between  2009 and 2012. Researching at present as a Ph. D candidate at Koç University the social, political and aesthetic effects of audio visual recording systems. Has worked on material culture, media archaeology, archive studies, technological infrastructures, aesthetic practices, audio-visual forms of knowledge and the sociology of emotions.  Has published numerous articles and interviews in print and digital form . Has been working as an interpreter and book editor.

Orkun Doğan

Completed his B.A. in economics at Boğaziçi University in 2010. Obtained his M.A. in economics and  economics and public political economy from Istanbul Bilgi University and the Barcelona School of Economics.  Research assistant and Ph. D candidate in economics at Istanbul Bilgi University. Worked in numerous research projects as project coordinator, field researcher and data analyst.  Has done research in the fields of political economy, development economics, agricultural economics, ecological economics and behavioral economics. Carried out academic research on agriculture and food systems and has practical experience on cooperatives.
